The song "Yesterday" was originally recorded by the Beatles for their 1965 album Help! . The song is credited to "Lennon–McCartney", however it was written solely by Paul McCartney. It is one of the most covered songs in the history of recorded music.

"Yesterday" is a melancholy acoustic guitar ballad which describes the painful break-up of a love relationship. Paul McCartney is the only member of the the Beatles to appear on the recording, and it was the first official recording that only featured one member of the band. McCartney is accompanied by a string quartet. Due to the recording's musical departure from their previous work, the band members rejected it as a single release in the United Kingdom.
